Aug. 14, 2024 - In the previous TPMS post, we explained how we can integrate shade controls into a Building Management System to maximize performance.
Throughout this series, we’ve explained several ways our TPMS Team can design a system to maximize the efficiency of shades. But how does Draper make sure the system works as it should “on the ground?”
Commissioning Services, that’s how!
Commissioning Services is a comprehensive process to make sure programming and integration of the shading system meet the project requirements.
Depending on the customer’s needs, Draper provides On-site or Remote Commissioning.
- On-site Commissioning: Draper sends one of our Automation Specialists to program and troubleshoot the system in person.
- Remote Commissioning requires a dealer representative to complete all on-site work, with remote support from our TPMS team.
There are 7 steps in the Commission process:
- Pre-Installation Assessment: We conduct a thorough review of all documentation to make sure our system will meet project requirements.
- Commissioning Plan Development: We develop a detailed plan including scope, schedule, and goals.
- Integration Testing: After ensuring shades are properly integrated with other building systems, we test communication protocols and also make sure the systems can “talk to” one another.
- Performance Testing and Verification: We operate the system to make sure it meets requirements laid out in the commissioning plan.
- Documentation Review: We provide complete and accurate operation manuals and maintenance guides that align with the as-built system.
- Training and Handover: We train end users and facility managers on how to operate and maintain motorized window shades, and hand over complete and updated documentation to support ongoing system management.
- Post-Commissioning Support: Even after it’s all finished, we offer up to a year of ongoing support. Plus, we can fine-tune the system based on feedback and data from daily use.
Commissioning Services make sure the motorized window shades are always where they need to be, so they are providing proper levels of glare control, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort.
